At the University of Minnesota in summer 2017, 18 students wrote blog posts instead of papers for the world history class Civilization and the Environment to 1500.

The argument posts take a stance on a broad statement about themes of the course, from the importance of water and trade to civilization, to the costs and benefits of urbanization.  You can read more about the assignment and how it worked here.

 

 

 

The review posts discuss their textbook, J.R. McNeill and William H. McNeill’s The Human Web:  A Bird’s-Eye View of World History (Norton, 2003).
